Thom Fountain is a writer, strategist, and creative leader.
And hey, that’s me so let’s just switch to first person. I’ve built a diverse career from agencies to audio. I’ve scripted TV spots, wireframed websites, and produced podcasts. I’ve ghost-written for all-stars, both baseball and HGTV. I’ve named brands, built comms strategies, and, maybe above all, gotten really good at Excel.
But that seemingly wide-ranging experience isn’t actually all that different: I believe good communication is good communication. Whether it’s a 30-character subject line, a 30-second audio ad, or a 30-page brand style guide, I aim to write with the user in mind. I value their time, their experience, and the world that surrounds the words I put in front of them.
As a leader and collaborator I aim to put people first, because our best work is always done when we remember we are humans writing for humans. I love a constraint, I love to learn a new skill, and I love to get my hands dirty.
Values
Empathy Creates Action
Whether your end goal is getting someone to click a button or buy a car, you cannot succeed without understanding who is on the other end and why they would take action.
Everything Can Be Shorter
There is no shortage of words you will encounter today, and likely more tomorrow and exponentially more in the future. My goal is to inspire action without adding more words to your day.
Cut Through the Noise
You may be looking at a Word Doc, but the end-user is in the real world, surrounded by distractions. Make it worth their while to pay attention.
Constraints Help
Word counts, deadlines, and, yes, legal review force the work to be better. Don’t fight it, work within in.
